Hamas: We won’t be part of govt that recognizes Israel
Well, that didn’t take long.
Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh of Hamas said Friday he will not recognize a government that recognizes Israel.
Haniyeh spoke a day after moderate Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas indicated at the United Nations that a coalition government of Hamas and Abbas’ Fatah movement would recognize the Jewish state.
“I personally will not head any government that recognizes Israel,” Haniyeh said in a mosque sermon in Gaza City on Friday, laying out his group’s positions in coalition talks with Abbas
In other words, if Abbas tries to recognize Israel, Hamas will split the government. With Palestinians, that means Civil War. Nice. One wonders why Abbas would make such a sweeping statement only yesterday that recognition of Israel would be a done deal if he hadn’t cleared the statement with his PM. Why would he assume that the Hamas representative would ever consent to such a thing publicly if he wouldn’t agree to it ahead of time?
Just more crap coming from what passes for a government there.
