Mormon Church posts answers about itself; the practice raises questions about the rest of us
In looking over FoxNews.com a few moments ago I saw a story reporting that Fox sent in 21 questions to the Mormons’ LDS asking for details about the Mormon faith. I didn’t read the whole thing, primarily because of the thought that popped into my head on reading the 1st line:
Mitt Romney’s run for president has put his Mormon faith in the spotlight, but the religion remains a mystery to most.
The reason it has remained a mystery (mostly) to me is simple: it’s irrelevant to the question of whether or not Mitt Romney should be President. At no time has Romney suggested that his actions and policies will be directed by the Mormon Church. In fact, he’s on record saying precisely the opposite. As a Catholic who has read in detail the crap John Kennedy went through during his campaign trying to reassure people that he wouldn’t turn America into a vassal state to the Vatican, it’s frankly a bit offensive to me that there are people out there who bristle the second religious discussion arises in the public square and yet are happy to discuss nothing but religion when Romney’s campaign comes up.
There’s no religious test for public office, folks, and there shouldn’t be. By all means, read up on Mormonism. But do it as an education for yourself, not to find “gotchas” to dismiss someone running for office. Hey, Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee have found good solid proof for why they shouldn’t be nominated to the presidency and they haven’t touched on their religious faiths at all. I’m sure people can come up with the same for Romney that doesn’t smack the guy around for what church he attends.

Absolutely agree.
At the same time, I think the adage, “any press is good press,” is applicable. I don’t think the opponents of Mitt Romney and/or the Church realize what a service they are doing by giving Mitt and the Church so much press, even if they intend it to be negative. Most Americans are not dopes and can see through negatively tinted reporting. The negative press only encourages people to do more research and find the full truth.
The Fox article responses were kind of dry (because some of the questions were loaded). I really like this article in the Church’s Press Room that gives much more detail and color about what the members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) believe about Jesus Christ:
