Left’s reps can’t handle equality

My first reaction to reading the headline of the Fox News item, “Tina Fey Wants Palin Out of Her Life After Election” was to think that if she hadn’t have gone out of her way to draw attention to herself spoofing Palin then she wouldn’t be in the position she’s in. Fey’s looking for help [...]

And now, a Bank that values bringing Loudoun the Green

Regardless of what one thinks of the constant sparring over such topics as global warming and fossil fuels, there’s no doubt that when one can do so it’s usually a good idea to build and live with an eye toward conserving valuable resources. The current moniker for such efforts is “Green,” as in Green Initiatives, [...]

Breaking on Fox News: JetBlue terminal at JFK being evac’d.

22 September, 2008 (07:16) | Human Interest | By: ricjames

This literally just in, the JetBlue terminal at JFK is being evacuated. Fox has a live video stream that’s showing several emergency vehicles next to the building but there’s no information about what’s causing the evacuation. I’ll have more when I find more.

A south African diamond mine has produced a huge stone – 478 carats. Based on the initial examination by gemcutters, it could potentially be cut and polished to produce a single 150-carat gem. There’s a picture with the news story that will give you an idea of the size we’re talking about. This ain’t your [...]

Business trips, again

21 September, 2008 (23:48) | Blogging | By: ricjames

I don’t know whether it’s a net positive that your input on the job becomes sought after enough that you’re invited to increasing numbers of business meetings requiring travel. That’s an unsubtle method of telling you I’m on the road again. This will be the last for a while, I hope, but it’s likely going [...]

A message behind the Palin hack: firewall your communications

20 September, 2008 (08:59) | 2008 Presidential Race, Crime & Punishment, Internet, Politics, Technology | By: ricjames

Long-time readers here know I’m a network engineer by profession. So, when the subject of so-called “hackers” and compromised e-mail systems come up the topic is squarely within my expertise. When I titled this post and used the term “firewall” it could be assumed I’m talking about the network security technology of the same name. [...]

Bill Whittle “The Undefended City”

20 September, 2008 (07:17) | 2008 Presidential Race, GWOT, Human Interest, Politics | By: ricjames

Bill Whittle is quite probably the greatest American essayist of our time. Our Founding Fathers had theirs and they needed them, badly. So do we and Whittle’s latest is a potent reminder of some important facts: When all is said and done, Civilizations do not fall because of the barbarians at the gates. Nor does [...]

Dems talk about transparent government and then hide billions in earmarks

19 September, 2008 (07:45) | Politics | By: ricjames

Via Instapundit I found this opinion piece in The Examiner about some truly outrageous action by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid: As the stock market plunged nearly 1,000 points in two days this week, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada was preoccupied with protecting billions of dollars worth of earmarks contained in a separate, [...]

House passes legislation to lift DC gun regs; DC works to stall as long as possible

18 September, 2008 (07:23) | 2nd Amendment, Human Interest, Politics | By: ricjames

Yesterday the House of Representatives passed H.R. 6691, The Second Amendment Enforcement Act, by a vote of 226-152. The Act will compel the government of DC to actually comply with the US Constitution and the Supreme Court decision in the Heller case by repealing DC’s continuing efforts at banning guns. The law specifically repeals the [...]
