Too Conservative too secure?

25 September, 2008 (18:04) | Blogging, Politics, Virginia Politics | By: ricjames

I make a point of reading Too Conservative on a daily basis, even while traveling, but I haven’t been able to get through to the site for the past several days. When I go there, I get this:

Forbidden

You don’t have permission to access / on this server.

Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

That’s a server error usually indicating that the person getting this message has requested access to a file his permissions don’t qualify to view. Considering the act of putting their URL into your browser means you’re requesting access to the site’s main “index” page, that means the whole bloody site is currently considered above my security clearance. Man, that’s harsh. I’m assuming there’s some sort of server problem over there but I’ll post more if I hear more.

Let us all get back from vacation to deal with it, already.
I’m still sitting on a beach, but I’m scheduled back by tomorrow. >:-)

Apparently we were using up way too much of the host’s server space and they shut us down without warning. They are now saying we need a dedicated server for an exorbitant fee. It seems like a bit of a shake down to me, but it’s all in Vincent’s (TC) hands. Hopefully this should be resolved in the next day or so.

Thanks for the update, guys. I was pretty sure it was something along these lines. Hope this gets fixed with a minimum of pain!

Jeez, talk about victims of their own success! LI you should tell Vincent to look at other shared hosting providers. Try superb.net; they’ve been doing good for me for many year now and even when we get our occasional big spikes we’ve never had a hiccup.

Right before an election they tell you this?

Joe, no one reads yours site. Little traffic, little issues. TC’s issue is traffic, no comparison to yours.

Blackout…you’ve nodoubt seen Joe’s traffic logs??
To say he gets no traffic is a bit of a stretch, buddy.

TC should be back up tommorrow on a new host.

That’s sort of an unkind comment, BlackOut. I’ve never tried to make NVTH into anything more than it is, certainly never bragged about our admittedly modest traffic – except comments on the rare occasions when we got huge traffic which I have always identified as aberrations.

Actually, less traffic is one of the things I like about NOVATownhall — it allows for actual conversations to occur.
