Washington Times has a time machine?

4 November, 2008 (19:54) | 2008 Presidential Race, Politics, Virginia Politics | By: ricjames

The headline of the Washington Times story is “Warner breezes to Senate win in Virginia.” This is interesting to me because the story is showing published at 7:03pm, November 4, 2008. In other words, about 3 minutes after the polls closed. Don’t take my word for it, look at this screen capture:

The text of the lede was this:

Former Virginia Gov. Mark Warner has breezed to victory in his bid for the Senate, capturing for Democrats a southern seat long held by Republicans and fueling expectations that Democrats would solidify their now-thin leadership grip over the chamber.

This isn’t a sarcastic story nor is it some opinion piece. This is the AP writing the news. Just a bit ahead of schedule, wouldn’t you say? At this point, there’s barely 3% of precincts in Virginia reporting so there’s no chance this can be extrapolated reasonably. Either the AP is just spreading FUD or this was a matter of premature publication.

Update: Oh, by the way, I’m not saying Warner isn’t going to win and probably win big. It’s just that 3 minutes after the polls close is way too early to call it.
