BRMC poll results at HoodaThunk?

9 December, 2008 (18:08) | Politics, Virginia Politics | By: ricjames

It’s been over a week since i put up the poll about the Broadlands Regional Medical Center (BRMC) asking what you guys thought: approve it or not? We had 24 responses (big for our polls, by the way) and it came down to: Yes – 14 (58%), No – 9 (38%), Keep debating – 1 (4%).

Skipping lightly over the joker who answered that he wanted to see the debate continue, it’s pretty clear that the readership here is in favor of the BoS approving the BRMC. One can only hope that the Board sees fit to do and and allow this hospital, which should have been built and operating by now, to proceed and start serving the community.

The thing is this half hospital with out a helipad ever and never according to the CEO of HCA. God help anyone that gets taken there in an a emergency and needs to go to a trauma center and can’t be airlifted out.

We need to be a three hospital county hospital with that much more taxes and workers. This half hospital could ensure in our lifetime we are only a one and a half hospital county. Thinks about this location it is already served by two hospitals already the HCA reston and INOVA. The major growth for the next ten years is the brambleton and rt50 corridor until metro is built and the high density kicks in 8 to 10 years from now. Look at a aerial of the greenway where this hospital is proposed most of the land is built on except the high density developments approved. west of belmont is mostly transition low desnsity.

Look at the aerial and you see a lot vacant land approved for suburban development between brambleton and in the rt 50 corridor. The largest town center to date is under construction right now at rt 50 and LPC.

We need 3 full blown hospitals in this county in our lifetimes not one and a half because NO helipad with all the employment and taxes that comes with two new hospitals not a half one that is proposed. Build the next one between rt 50 and brambleton near the proposed university with the potential for a medical school. And in 8 to 10 years build the full blown trauma center at the moorefield station with helipad when the high density kicks in when the metro is out here. Otherwise most likely we will end up in our lifetime a one and a half hospital county in our life time.

Sorry, Lee, I’ve heard the Inova talking points already that building a hospital at BRMC will result in no other hospitals being built in Loudoun, ever. It’s hogwash. The distance between Fair Oaks and Reston is roughly the same as between Inova and BRMC and neither Fair Oaks nor Reston are starving. Hospitals get built when the population density reaches levels that support it and when that population in the Route 50 corridor reaches that high a hospital will get built. Building hospitals at arbitrary points on a map so they can be equally spaced with no regard to where the population is is the approach that makes no sense.

Ric your thinking is off. Broadlands where the proposed BRMC is to be built. Well that area is already served by reston HCA and INOVA both about the same driving time 10 to 15 minutes so with this hospital the area with have triple coverage and the rt fifty corridor and brambleton and all in between is the fastest growing area for the next 8 to 10 years with approved developments and the largest town center Arcola under construction right now. Where is all the land to build on in the greenway corridor that is not high density or in the transition zone?????? Just look a a current aerial. Metro in 8 to 10 years will spurn the second wave of growth in 8 to 10 years in the greenway corridor. So rick you are in correct about the growth.

Second what happens if the etm’s bring a patient to BRMC with no helipad and needs to be moved immediately to fairfaxes trauma center???????? Really dumb compromise to build what amounts to a half hospital without a helipad ever. That is what the CEO of HCA said there will never ever be a helipad at the BRMC. hmmmm she a liar and con artist who does she only want a half hospital built. Since the HCA has got caught bilking billions of dollars illegally, I know they will go far that helipad as fast as they can once they get approval. So do we want a half hospital built in the center of eastern Loudoun or do we want a full blown potential trauma center hopefully in the center of Loudoun. ANyway you look it the BRMC present location is the most inferior location a hospital can be built on with all the compromises.
