The House Judiciary Committee has issued another subpoena to Karl Rove, no doubt to massive cheering over at MoveOn.org.

The House Judiciary Committee chairman subpoenaed former White House adviser Karl Rove on Monday to testify about the Bush administration’s firing of nine U.S. attorneys and its prosecution of a former Democratic governor.

Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., said the ongoing legal battle to get Rove and other former Bush administration aides to testify may have success with a new president in the White House.

Gee, you think? Perhaps the incoming President, who sits in staunch opposition to quite a bit of what the previous administration did (though not as much, now that he’s in office, as he said he did on the campaign trail) might be more willing to throw the previous president’s advisors to the wolves? Hmmm, now let me think.

At this point, I’m curious to see how the committee, and particularly the Chairman, Conyers, will try to cover up the fact that they’re going for blood over President Bush’s firing of a whole 9 US Attorneys, an action completely within the power of the President and for which he needs absolutely no justification. As I’ve mentioned before, Bill Clinton used the same power to fire all of the sitting US Attorneys when he entered office. That’s “all” of them, as in: every last one. These lawyers serve in their positions at the pleasure of the President and he may let any one of them go for any or no reason at all. That the Dems see nothing wrong with Clinton’s actions but see evil in Bush’s is a sign of their partisan politics, not the President’s.

Without the executive branch to offer the protection for an advisor to the White House, I have no doubts Rove will be forced to testify to the committee. I just wonder if Conyers will have the stones to let them broadcast the whole thing, unedited.
