Seems that Dem-surrogate ACORN is in line for public money

27 January, 2009 (13:32) | Politics | By: ricjames

ACORN, a supposed “low-income” advocacy group, is under current investigation fo voter registration fraud and some of the people working for them in this regard are already convicted and in jail over the same offense. Now, it’s coming to light that provisions in the whopper “stimulus” bill Congress is attempting to ram down our throats might go to line ACORN’s pockets.

Republican lawmakers are raising concerns that ACORN, the low-income advocacy group under investigation for voter registration fraud, could be eligible for billions in aid from the economic stimulus proposal working its way through the House.

House Republican Leader John Boehner issued a statement over the weekend noting that the stimulus bill wending its way through Congress provides $4.19 billion for “neighborhood stabilization activities.”

He said the money was previously limited to state and local governments, but that Democrats now want part of it to be available to non-profit entities. That means groups like ACORN would be eligible for a portion of the funds.

Curious that so many provisions exist that would benefit organizations that have been such close allies to the Democrats, isn’t it? Particularly since the bill is supposed to be about creating/saving jobs and firing the economy back up. How does sending tax dollars to ACORN do that?

Sen. Vitter (R-La) is correct: this is a payoff bill, not a stimulus bill.

This Congress will go down as the lowest, most self-serving bunch of *edit* in our long history. They’re already at 9% approval and falling.

Wow, didn’t know they were that low. I read a quick blurb somewhere that Obama’s already lost 15 points in his approval polling but I’d like to see some official reporting of that.

Gonna be a bumpy ride, eh?

I had high hopes that he was going to buck the far-left and govern from the center. A good number of his decisions so far indicate that he’s sliding leftward, although he’s being kept from a full-out run by the economy.
I still say that Gitmo was a terrible gamble, and that we’re going to find a released prisoner firing on our troops before it’s over. It’ll be interesting to see the media attempt to cover it up when it happens.
