Universal healthcare in Mass.: another examle of failure
From the DC Examiner:
Government mandates — even those originally billed as “market-based solutions” — always turn into a “rights-violating road to disaster,” Hsieh says. Barack Obama’s health policy advisers should take a good look at the smoldering wreckage in the Bay State before trying to impose any such “universal coverage” on the rest of the nation.
That’s the take on the hugely-touted “universal healthcare” program enacted in the State of Massachusetts just a couple of years ago. The state’s program managers had to start jacking up rates within a year of inception to pay for all of the mandated benefits that were on some wish list somewhere kept by activists who never had any need nor intention of relying on the program for their own care. And those are costs that are still less than what doctors were told they were going to receive under the program when it started. It looks like, sounds like, and acts like Canadian- and British-style socialized medical systems and it’s got all of the same problems.
