Another rock goes sailing past
Just 15 days ago I wrote about a near miss of an asteroid that went by us at about 40,000 miles. Well, it just happened again about 90 minutes ago as I write this.
The small space rock dubbed 2009 FH flew within 49,000 miles of the Earth’s surface at 8:17 a.m. EDT.
Don Yeomans, who heads NASA’s Near-Earth Object Program, says there was never any chance of an impact.
The asteroid, measuring 43 feet and 95 feet across, was spotted Monday night by the NASA-funded Catalina Sky Survey in Arizona.
This one was much smaller than the one earlier in March. That one was a couple of hundred feet in diameter. Still, I’d imagine this one would have made a big enough boom to get your attention.
