HoodaThunk?

The mental wanderings of a common man.

Required reading: “US speeding towards financial crash”

Elections have consequences, as I’ve said in the past. The policies being enacted by this administration will have disastrous economic consequences. Rather than re-invent (or, in this case, re-write) the wheel, please have a look at Ed Morrissey’s latest on the matter:

Not only will the deficits increase, the cost of deficits will increase, and eventually the debt service will become the biggest part of the federal budget — unless Washington massively increases taxes to close the gap.

Read it all.

Presidential Golf Club in Ashburn to reopen as 1757 Golf Club

There’s a new place to swing the iron here in Loudoun, the 1757 Golf Club. Erica Garman over at Living in LoCo has the scoop, complete with a very recent update containing greens fees and whatnot. Even better: 1757 will be open to the public rather than continuing the Presidential’s $60K membership fee.

According to the update, senior VP Rich Katz says the course will be open for play on Friday. I’m out of commission for at least a month or so but I’m looking forward to hearing from any fellow greens-hackers as to their experiences.

The club is part of the Billy Casper Golf company but they don’t have a web site running yet. When they do, I’ll find a link and post it.

Muldoon’s support somewhat less than he’s been alluding

Anyone who’s a delegate to the RPV Convention at the end of the month has likely been getting a trail of e-mails from one Pat Muldoon seeking the nomination for Lt. Governor. Muldoon’s argumentation skills have already been discussed here at HoodaThunk? several days ago. On Monday I got an e-mail from the folks in Muldoon’s home district and they are pretty obviously not behind him, either.

The e-mail itself is in the 1st comment to this post if you’d like to see the entire thing. Georgie Gale over at Bearing Drift got a copy as well and posted on it already:

These are the folks who know Muldoon best. They’ve watched his failed attempts at elected office time and time again. They know that in the three times he’s run for public office, he’s never even carried a precinct in his home county of Giles in a general election.

And now they’re calling him out on his lies and distortions.

As they put it, “he has allowed himself to be manipulated by a small faction within our party and is now running a personally negative campaign against one of the most reliable conservative voices our party has ever had in Richmond – Bill Bolling.”

Bill Bolling’s record stands in stark contrast to Muldoon’s characterizations and even his home team recognizes it. One would hope Muldoon wouldn’t drag this on until the end of the month but I’ve a feeling he will. I urge my fellow delegates to send a clear message of Republican unity on the matter by voting for Bill Bolling at the convention.

And the color of money is still the same?

Interesting story.

Maggie and John Anderson of Chicago vowed four months ago that for one year, they would try to patronize only black-owned businesses. The “Empowerment Experiment” is the reason John had to suffer for hours with a stomach ache and Maggie no longer gets that brand-name lather when she washes her hair. A grocery trip is a 14-mile odyssey.

“We kind of enjoy the sacrifice because we get to make the point … but I am going without stuff and I am frustrated on a daily basis,” Maggie Anderson said. “It’s like, my people have been here 400 years and we don’t even have a Walgreens to show for it.”

OK. Well, they’re free citizens just like I am and they are free to plunk their dollars down with the merchants of their choice just like me. I have to wonder, however, what their response would have been if I had announced, a few weeks before they got their brainstorm, that I was only going to shop at white man-owned establishments as an “Empowerment Exercise.” I gotta tell you, I’m thinking the word “racist” and/or “bigot” would have been flying out of their mouths fast, loud, and continuously. I can even imagine there’s a few readers of this blog who are already narrowing their eyes in indignation that I’ve even brought this up. But racism is racism, folks, and it doesn’t matter what color is doing the discriminating. And if people want to be treated equally and just the same as any other citizen, they should drop the “my people” commentary outside of references to Americans as a whole.

Good luck with your shopping for the remainder of the year, Anderson family. I hope you find what you’re looking for.
