Congress approves measure containing provision legalizing carrying firearms in National Parks
Last week I mentioned the Senate’s passing of a credit card reform bill that contained a provision sponsored by Senator Tom Coburn which would allow Americans to carry guns in national parks. Today, the House approved the measure and sent it to the President to sign. (Obama is expected to sign it.)
The other measure, to restore a Bush administration policy allowing loaded guns in national parks, had been pushed by conservative Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., who persuaded the Senate to add it to its version of the credit card legislation.
The Senate bill put House Democrats in a tough spot, since they effectively were forced to vote against gun control Wednesday in order to avoid kicking the bill back to the other chamber again. (The House and Senate must approve the same bill.)
They split the vote between the 2 issues to allow gun control advocates a chance to vote against the Coburn amendment but there were still 105 Democrats in the House and 27 in the Senate that voted to pass the measure.
This is a pretty good day as pertains to our 2nd Amendment rights. I’m pleased.
