Why the protests now?

11 May, 2009 (12:01) | Economy, Politics | By: ricjames

I understand some lefty critics are going on about why there weren’t Tea Party protests during the Bush administration. As pointed out over at Instapundit, this might be a good starting point: White House: Budget deficit to top $1.8 trillion, 4 times 2008′s record.

And how about something visual to keep that going?

Bear in mind this chart was made before the Obama White House made their “our estimates might have been a bit too rosy” admission. This also doesn’t factor in the disaster of Obamacare should that get shoved down our throats which will both increase the immediate costs and drive the economy further downward.

I’m curious: does the right have anything useful to add to the process? Since “tax cuts for the rich” has been done to death for a long time, and have added nothing of value?

“Tax cuts for the rich” isn’t a reality-based description, it’s a Democrat talking point. The tax cuts enacted during the last administration were applied to every American earning a paycheck and every American saw the effect. The government revenues taken in after those cuts were enacted went up both times, as they have in the past when cuts were enacted. That’s not “add[ing] nothing of value.”

However, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Before we start discussing what the right has already attempted to add to the process and were denied the opportunity to do, I’d like to hear something from you. Do you agree this situation – the massive deficits being proposed by this administration – is a bad thing? I mean, you don’t see the data shown above and think this is a good and proper path to follow, or do you?
