Working the customer base that I do (federal agencies) this time of year is especially busy. Adding to that is my company’s annual sales meeting, currently ongoing. That means I’m in a lot of meetings this week, often without any contact via voice or e-mail. One of my usual contacts told me that the Coast [...]

Good news, if true: BP says oil has stopped leaking into the Gulf of Mexico for the first time since April, touting the success of its new cap on its broken well. BP has been slowly dialing down the flow as part of a critical pressure test on its new cap, which it now believes [...]

In any operation – military, commercial, governmental – there is a limit to how long personnel can be expected to perform tasks productively. In many businesses, there are actually regulations in place that state exactly how long and how often a person can be on duty in a given period of time. Take commercial pilots [...]

The headline for this story was a bit irritating. My immediate thought was something to the effect of “I really don’t give a damn that it’s cost you $2B so far – plug the leak” but I went ahead and read the story anyway. There’s some good information in there about the work to drill [...]

Viewed as a whole, you have to wonder where the President’s priorities really were. Perhaps, are: I certainly don’t begrudge the President a golf game. Frankly it’s one of the few outdoor things he really gets to do and we all need that, especially in high-pressure jobs. But tracking how often he managed to find [...]

The headline at FoxNews.com reads “Rep. Cao Suggests BP Exec Commit ‘Hara-Kiri’ Over Spill.” It’s not just a headline snafu, either. In the story itself it reads: Lawmakers are fuming at BP, but Rep. Joseph Cao took that anger to a new level during a congressional hearing when he suggested a top executive commit ritual [...]

Obama’s speech last night that was allegedly going to be addressing the status and progress on the Gulf oil spill turned, as I suspected it would, into a policy speech designed to start lining up support for his legislation taxing energy. He and his advisors clearly think the only thing on the minds of the [...]

Gov. McDonnell was quite clear during his election campaign that he wanted to see Virginia become the east coast’s energy capital and he’s continuing to make good on his word. While his push to get Virginia’s oil industry engaged, asking the federal government to stop dragging its feet and open up the leasing for more [...]

Another rig in the Gulf has, according to recent reports, been leaking oil into the Gulf since late April. This rig, the Ocean Saratoga, is run by Diamond Offshore on behalf of Taylor Energy, the owner of the well. While much, much smaller than the BP spill, it’s supposedly not exactly difficult to see. Skytruth.org, [...]

Dammit. BP admitted defeat Saturday in its attempt to plug the Gulf of Mexico oil leak by pumping mud into a busted well, but is readying yet another approach after repeated failures to stop the crude that’s fouling marshland and beaches. BP PLC Chief Operating Officer Doug Suttles said the company determined the “top kill” [...]
