Pause with me to remember the true meaning of Memorial Day. To those that served, serve now, and will serve, my family & I thank you.

Happy Thanksgiving!

25 November, 2010 (07:30) | History, Human Interest, Items of Note | By: ricjames

In these modern times so many of our holidays have devolved to little more than shopping extravaganzas and the occasional football game. Thanksgiving has not been spared this treatment, as the “Black Friday” sales slipping into Thanksgiving Day demonstrates. It is so easy to think of nothing more than that and look forward to a [...]

From the linked Columbus Dispatch story: A Franklin County judge told three out-of-state campaigners for Barack Obama who voted here illegally that they should [...]

I was having a passing conversation with a friend living well south of me in Loudoun County and medical needs came up. (A recent issue in his household required a few trips to the hospital.) I related a similar experience I’d had last year and he asked me where I had gone. I had gone [...]

News items that caught my eye

27 January, 2008 (20:18) | Items of Note, Politics, Technology | By: ricjames

It’s been a home project day so I’ve been “news-blind” for the past several hours. Some items of note: A spy satellite has lost power and is headed for an uncontrolled re-entry. This is bad for several reasons but I’m not sure what they can do about it. The bird is due to come down [...]

Items of note: Knoxville cop pulls a Nifong, Dems want retreat from Afghanistan, etc.

This usually results in me reading the post, perhaps commenting, and then heading off to the next stop in my usual on-line walkabout. Starting today, I’m going [...]
